Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital located at 7327 Long Drive in the Golfcrest District of Houston, Texas. Originally founded in the 1950s (est. ~1956) by Dr. Leon Slatko, it was one of the first veterinary clinics in Houston. Dr. John A. Shelby (DVM — Texas A&M Veterinary College, 1994) purchased the practice in July 1996 and has grown it from a 1.5-doctor practice to a busy multi-doctor hospital. In 2010, the clinic moved into a brand-new 5,400 sq ft facility featuring an enlarged surgery suite, expanded dental and treatment areas, a dedicated radiology room with a full-body DR digital x-ray unit, and a DR digital dentistry x-ray unit. Walk-ins are welcome (first come, first served); surgeries and dentals are by appointment only. The veterinary team includes: Dr. John A. Shelby (DVM, Owner — Texas A&M 1994; interests: small animal medicine and surgery), Dr. Patricia Castro (DVM — Texas A&M, B.S. Biomedical Science Texas A&M; joined 2006; interests: surgery and internal medicine), Dr. Elizabeth Gallagher (DVM — Saint George's University Grenada; clinics at University of Tennessee; interests: all companion animals, surgery, sea turtle research), and Dr. Joshua Taylor (DVM — Ross University; clinics at Purdue University; B.S. Animal Science Becker College; CVT background; interests: internal medicine, neurology, acupuncture). Hospital Administrator: Michael Schonefeld (25+ years in animal medicine; Texas A&M graduate). Services include: veterinary services, boarding, grooming & spa, digital x-rays, dental x-rays, surgery, spay/neuter, diagnostics, and preventive care.
