The hospital has deep roots in Brownsville and was formed through the 2018 merger of two long-established practices: Animal Medical Center of Brownsville (founded in 1971 by Dr. Gary Crouch, originally on the north expressway before moving to the current location in 1988) and Boca Chica Animal Hospital (founded in 1977 by Dr. Glenn Head on Boca Chica Blvd). Former partners Dr. Raul Rubalcava and Dr. Jerry Stanfield were also key figures in the practice's legacy. In 2019, the merged practice underwent an 8,000 square foot renovation to bring state-of-the-art medicine and a modern hospital environment.
